Pedestrian Art for Democracy

Created playful chalk based images and messages encouraging citizens to vote on city bike paths and sidewalks the month preceding the 2004 presidential election. Co-conspirators in the project, Brenda Baker & Bird Ross contend that “Democracy is currently at stake in our country, with a high degree of voter disenfranchisement, cynicism, and general apathy and alienation toward civic engagement.” This project seeks to encourage participation in the democratic process through the arts.
